DX Bulletin 15 ARLD015
From ARRL Headquarters
Newington CT March 26, 1993
To all radio amateurs
Thanks to Tedd, KB8NW; the Ohio/Penn DX PacketCluster Network; and
Eric, WD3Q, for providing the items in this week's bulletin.
THE ADVENTURES OF ROMEO. Ed, NT2X, received a FAX from Romeo,
3W3RR/AH0M, informing him of planned activity from Libya sometime in
late March. The call sign is to be announced just prior to the
operation. Stay tuned.
TUNISIA. There is a chance Romeo will operate from here after his
Libya activity. A station signing 3V8CW was heard on 21015 kHz
around 1630z on March 21. The operator stated QSL via JF7FIU, a
call not listed in the 1993 Callbook.
ETHIOPIA. Keep an eye on the PacketCluster screen for ET3SID by
Syd, G4CTQ.
GHANA. We are waiting for the first spots to show for the
Dutch group's 9G operation.
UGANDA. Uganda Post and Telecommunications has advised that the ban
on amateur radio has been lifted. Visiting amateurs may also obtain
permission to operate. Bruno, 5X1A, a regular on 15 meter phone,
has also been worked on 28380 kHz between 1800 and 2300z. QSL via
DL0MAR. Paul, WF5T, and James, N3CJL, will be signing 5X1XB and
5X1XA respectively from April 27 through May 13. They plan all band
activity with CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL their home calls.
JORDON. King Hussein, JY1, was heard recently on the Butterfly DX
Net on 14226 kHz at about 2230z. JY3ZH can be found on 14250 kHz
around 0300z, and JY9ZK also operates some 20 meter SSB starting at
0100z.
WESTERN SAHARA. Gerald, S0/KA3KJH, operates 28414 kHz around 1530z.
EGYPT. SU1MT was active this past weekend on 14193 kHz around 2030z.
PERU. Inge, OA4GH, has been very busy lately on CW. Look for her
on 20 meters around 0300z and 40 meters around 0615z. QSL via the
bureau.
ISLE OF MAN. GD0SLY has a big signal on 160 meter SSB. Check 1852
kHz around 0645z. QSL via WA3CGE.
GUINEA-BISSAU. Eric, SM0AGD, will be active from March 22 through
April 5, possibly using his old call J5AG.
NETHERLAND ANTILLES. Marko, OH6DO, and Olli, OH0XX, will be
operating as PJ9X multi/single during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest.
QSL both PJ9X and PJ2/OH6DO via OH1VL.
GABON. West coast amateurs recently had the treat of working the
big signal from Don, TR8MD, on 14200 khz at 0220z. QSL via F6FNU.
ALAND ISLANDS. The five OH operators who activated Aland Island the
last week of 1992 will be at it again from early April for nearly
two weeks. Their QTH will be Brando Island, IOTA EU-02. Listen for
OH0LQK, OH0NLP, OH0MEP, OH0MFP, OH0MYD and OH3NE. Activity will be
on 160 to 10 meters, including the WARC bands, with CW, SSB, Baudot
and AMTOR. And there is a chance for some six meter work.
VANUATU. Eric, WD3Q, will be in Vanuatu April 18 through 21.
Although no license is in-hand, he has been assured one will be
issued. He hopes to be able to operate from the VARS club station,
but will bring along his own equipment. Eric promises WARC and
novice HF band action.
MONACO. Look for 3A/IK4CIE/P and 3A/IK4IDW/P around April 24.
Marko and Steve will operate primarily CW, with an emphasis on
working USA on the WARC bands. These stations will be running 100
watts to vertical antennas, so please show a little patience.
CORSICA. The Western Emilia DX Club will be active May 14 through
17. Several stations will be up and running with different calls.
On CW look for TK/IK4CIE/P and TK/IK4IDW/P. On SSB look for
TK/IK4NZD/P, TK/IK4ULA/P and TK/I4VJC/P. Some WARC activity is
planned.
THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. The phone bands will be busy this
weekend, because it's time for the CQ WW WPX Contest. Contrary to
popular belief, WW stands for World Wide and NOT World War. The
bands may sound more like the latter, though. For more information,
check page 109 of February QST. Good luck in the 'test.
